Work support in Nagoya for people with illness or disability | Honobono

Finding it hard to keep working because of illness or disability?

“I was working in Japan, but had to stop because of my health.”
“I want to start doing something again, but working every day feels difficult.”

At Honobono in Shinsakae, Naka Ward, Nagoya, we can help you find suitable work activities and an attendance schedule that works for you. Tell us what you enjoy, what feels difficult and what worries you.

Honobono provides a disability welfare service called 就労継続支援B型 (Type B continuous employment support). It offers work activities with support for people who find it difficult to work under an employment contract. You can ask us about the service even if you have never worked in Japan. This is not a job vacancy or a job-placement service.

What activities can I do?

  • Put papers into envelopes
  • Thread string through tags and tie it
  • Check products for problems
  • Pack items into bags
  • Make lists or enter data on a computer (Japanese reading and writing skills are required)

We’ll help you find activities that suit your abilities and health. The types of activities available change from time to time.

Do I need to come every day?

You can start with one day a week and 30 minutes per visit. We can discuss days and hours that suit your health.

Will I receive money?

You receive payment for work activities, called kōchin (工賃). You do not have an employment contract with Honobono. Kōchin is not a salary, and minimum wage rules do not apply to it. A fixed amount is not guaranteed. We will explain amounts and payment arrangements when you enquire.

How can I use the service?

Eligibility depends on your circumstances and is determined by your local municipality. We can explain the application process when you contact us.

To use the service, you need a document called a jukyūshashō (受給者証). This confirms the welfare services your municipality has approved for you. You can contact us before you have this document and ask about the application steps. Your residence status and circumstances may also need to be checked with your ward office or municipality.

You do not qualify for this service simply because you have difficulty speaking Japanese or finding work. We do not help with obtaining or renewing visas or residence status.

Can I ask questions if I do not speak much Japanese?

Yes. You can ask us questions in English or Burmese as well as Japanese.

Please contact us first through LINE or the enquiry form. Your family or someone supporting you can also contact us.

If you would like a visit in English, please arrange a date and time with us in advance.

For enquiries in Burmese, we mainly communicate in writing using translation tools.

Our representative studied Burmese at Osaka University and spent a short period studying at the University of Yangon. We do not provide professional interpreting or translation services.
